Resurfacing
on healing and the many layers we have to break through
it has only been a few days since I painted my nails — cherry red —
but already it has chipped allowing the whites of my nails to peak through
it's funny, isn't it?
no matter how many layers of nail polish I apply
— a clear base coat, a layer of color, sometimes even two, and another layer of clear polish —
my nails still manage to break through them all to resurface like a piece of wood that just won't sink
I realize there is some sort of beauty in this
in fighting through all the layers that are trying to suffocate us
yes, that is certainly beautiful
