Hidden behind words
the beauty of anonymity and the thrill of leaving tiny details behind like bread crumbs for hungry swans
I wonder what sort of image pops up in people’s minds when they read the name Velvet Poetess do they just see my profile picture; a woman photographed from behind, standing before her bookshelf, coffee in hand? do they wonder wether that is actually me or just a picture from pinterest which I liked?
perhaps it is me perhaps it is not who can tell
for all you know I could be a man hiding behind the name Velvet Poetess rather unlikely, I suppose, but still, not impossible
if you were to imagine me what do I look like?
is my hair long or short? red, black, brown, blonde or perhaps even green? oh my, for all you know it could be so long it tickles my feet when I walk barefoot
what do you imagine my hands to look like while holding my favourite fountain pen, writing a poem by candle light? are my fingers long and slim, do you imagine them to be short and stumpy… do you imagine them at all?
I enjoy the comfort of anonymity I can sit here and write my heart out say everything I have ever wanted to say all while being a faceless mystery
quite thrilling, I cannot lie
I could look a million different ways and if I were to ask a hundred people what they believe me to look like I would get a hundred different responses
that is fine with me; whatever you think I look like does not matter to me but something does — may I ask one favor of you?
if you ever try and imagine what I am like please let me be kind in your head let this faceless creature called Velvet Poetess stop to pet stray cats let it, this creature, carry bugs outside instead of squishing them beneath its shoes and please, let it be kind enough to help the elderly woman across the street
could you do that for me?
Want to support me?
Thank you for taking the time to sit with me for a bit. Every ounce of support means the world to me: Whether that be a like, a comment, a restack, a free subscription to my Substack or perhaps even buying me a coffee! (Please note that this is never an expectation I hold, you’re welcome here no matter how you show your support) A little goes a long way so if you can take some time out of your day to support a woman with dreams high up in the sky that would mean a lot. Thank you and take care, kind stranger<3 in love, Velvet
